3x-1/3x^2 + 10x+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to think about this as 3 1/2 when you have a mixed number and you are trying to turn it into an improper fraction... what do you do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is a rational expression. i am trying to simplify it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.. can you answer my question above?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that means it is 7/2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK, so that is exactly what this is think of this problem as written 1/2 + 3 which is 3 1/2 so we have (10x + 3) {that is like the 3} (10x + 3) 3x - 1/3x^2 {that is like the 1/2} so you take 3x^2(10x + 3) + (3x - 1) all over 3x^2 Just like we take 2 * 3 + 1 all over 2 Do you understand that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a little bit, but i dont understand why is 2*3 + 1 all over 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am saying that is what you do with 3 1/2 so do the same thing with this one. 3x^2(10x + 3) + (3x - 1) all over 3x^2 distribute (30x^3 + 9x^2 + 3x - 1)/3x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i get it now, but how do i simplify it even more?
