i need help with this inverse. sin-1 (1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's equal to 30 degrees, because if you look at the unit circle, sin 30 will equal 1/2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you can understand normal trig functions (eg. sin, tan, cos), then inverse will be just as easy.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sin_1(x) = y means: x = sin(y) what angle gives you a sin of 1/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhh where sin = y, y = +1/2 @ 30 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will there be a problem where it isn't a nice value from the unit circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I mean, if it pertains to your math class probably not (if calculators are not allowed). But if they do ask you to, then you will probably have access to a calculator. Otherwise it would take a lot of effort to try to find the value if it isn't off the unit circle.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the sin^-1(1/2) does equal 30 degrees (pi/6 radians)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh there is a calculator section. in that case i assume i just type in 2nd the (for example) sin-1 then the number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

on your computer, there shuold be a calculator program

OpenStudy (amistre64):

inv, sin usually gets you the sin inverse

OpenStudy (amistre64):

1/2..inv....sin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A ti-83 can easily be able to do this: 2nd => sin => type in number = Answer

OpenStudy (amistre64):

my calculator for school I gotta get: 2nd...trig....over to sin-1....input value....close paranthesis...enter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

mine is a ti-83 the 2nd then sin button

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gets me the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!
