A tangent line is a line which locally touches a curve at one and only one point. . The slope intercept formula for a line is y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. Remember, the first derivative is an equation for finding the slope of a line. You already know that f'(x) = 1, therefore the slope of the tangent line is 1.. So now all you need is a point on that tangent line to be able to find the equation.

yeah i know. but the derivative is 4x^3 + 4x... and if i set that equal to 1, x = .237. so it would be: y=1(x-.237)
