How do you factor x^3-6x^2+11x-6=0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you trying to find the real roots?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, the solution is (x-1)(x-2)(x-3), I don't know how to get that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

possible roots will be the factors of 6(or the constant in general) which are +/-1 +/-2 +/-3 +/-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, do you just plug those in and see what works?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is the only way i know ..hope it help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats helps, thank you!

dichalao's hint regarding the factors of the constant, 6 in this case, is presented at: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/rtnlroot.htm A quality plotting program can also be a great help. Refer to the attachment.
