I am confused on this! In my class we are to detail the process of polynomial division when the divisor is a monomial. Demonstrate the process with an example.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you mean polynomial long division?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think so?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here would be an example 3x^3+2x^2+4x/x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first you rewrite the problem as you would a long division problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you rewrite the problem as a long division problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2 in this case is the divisor

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm sorry it keeps retracting my posts one sec...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here, for some reason it won't allow me to use the symbols i would like but i can give you a link to a site that explains this if you wish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes that would be nice because this is so confusing to me. Also what does the ^ mean.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hopefully this will answer your questions http://www.sosmath.com/algebra/factor/fac01/fac01.html and the ^ means to the power of so x^2 would mean xsquared

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh and the site i provided shows examples with binomials and trinomials so keep that in mind

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

I am taking my class through the University of Phoenix and this is my second block of classes for algebra!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

3x +2 ------------------ x^2 |3x^3 +2x^2 +4x -3x^3 ------------- 2x^2 -2x^2 ---------- 4x <- remainder Since 4x/x^2 = 4/x 4 3x^2 +2 + ---- x
