Leo made two candles in the shape of right rectangular prisms. The first candle is 15cm high, 8cm long, and 8cm wide. The second candle is 5 cm higher but has the same length and width. How much additional wax was needed to make the taller candle?

I think the easiest way to find the difference in wax needed would be to take the volume of the added part. I guess you could take the full volumes of both and subtract them though. Anyways, I'd just find the volume. Since the length and width don't change, you use the same values for those. The difference in height between the two candles is 5, so use that for height. For volume, the equation should be Volume=(Length)(Width)(Height)\[Volume=(8)(8)(5)=320 cm ^{3}\]So if they were asking only for the additional wax needed, they gave you a little more information than needed...
