nobodies on the english forum, can i get a little advice? (no technical, just what would look better)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

go with the bowtie :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am writing a big research paper that compares indian mathematic education to english mathematic education. i dont expect anyone to know about it, but how would you start off and carry through?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

I am writing my this reasearch paper to compare......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahaha funny -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i meant generally, start with a breif history on how the educations relate or start with the comparing or what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Discuss why your research is important and maybe briefly touch on the differences and similarities.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

iiiiii have no idea why its important...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You want to start off with something that will grab the readers attention. Research papers can be very boring to read for many people, so I would try with a fact that is shocking or stands out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about all the transfer students that come from India to the United States to universities that are primarily dedicated to teaching those educated in American public schools?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to develop context in an expository essay, like this, so you will have to talk about the history. If it's a comparison, you have to set the context.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'd say thats somewhat important

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your introduction should contain all the points you are going to consider/talk about in your essay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright im screwed -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (amistre64):

start with a joke; whyd the duck cross the road? ....... to beat the chickens retrice:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arman1002, Like I said discuss why your paper is important. Tens of thousands of students go overseas every year to Engineering & Science schools at universities that usually try to teach to the way American students were taught.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If it's an expository essay, and one where you're comparing two things, you have to know about the similarities and differences. Your point here lies with explaining the differences and similarities of the two systems.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah, my kids didnt laugh either; but I did lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arman, are you panicking again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is any of this helping?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah a lot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im running through my info now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's the essay question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

theres no question- write about whatever, but i have already submitted my subject and cant change it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Start it off by saying something like: People from India are notorious for their aptitude with mathematics, science, and engineering. The question is whether this generality is simply related to a faulty perception by society or associated with stark differences in the countries educational system...then you could talk about some of the similities and difference with learning in india and learning in the United States....maybe, i donno ha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they arent haha, the literacy and education in india sucks so much that their IQ is nearly just above the standard of retardation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

rofl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start with that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im a freshman, so im trying to figure out how to keep their standards as well as write the essay to convey all this... problem is- is that i have the imagination and information to say a lot but the grammar and contingency lacks so i just sound stupid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

their being the schools

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, it sounds more like you need an editor over stimulus.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need some kind of salvation- i got 5 hours to write at least 4 pages... you bet im panicking!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Take your point, try to distill a few themes, then use those themes to guide your essay. You're not actually arguing a point, your exposing something (hence, expository).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg that makes sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, well, -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When it comes to education, the most important points to influence outcomes are: 1) Socio-economic status 2) The quality of the educator (their knowledge AND ability to engage/communicate/implement curriculum in a meaningful way (which needs resources)) 3) The attitude and ability of the student.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first one tends to always stand out significantly in research.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe you can link what you have to those three themes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the essay is specifically about mathematic education and i just found my thesis...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So this papers on is just comparing Indian education to American education to American dedication right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SHUTUP quentin. youre sitting right next to me. -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what's your thesis then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

stupid... thats what it is -.- "As south asians migrated from south asia, their execution of culture transforme into education as they inheritedand remade their traditions, when compared to the western historic-based fundamentals in education"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

minus all the spelling and grmamar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

American education not dedication my bad haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what the hell?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you trying to say (in plain English first)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my bad, theres a random sentence in there -.-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you basically saying it's culture that shapes what and how people learn?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you're saying that, you're dead on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And Arman has left the room...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it actually says (and as i reword it aswell): "as south Asians migrated from south Asia to America, their execution of culture transformed into education, as opposed to how western education which is founded on revolutionary ideals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you're over-complicating the language.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it actually says (and as i reword it aswell): "as south Asians migrated from south Asia to America, their execution of culture transformed into education, as opposed to how western education which is founded on revolutionary ideals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my computer is just being slow at times

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would be more inclined to open with something along the lines of how research shows education is shaped by culture and then look at a few aspects of difference between the mathematics education of both societies as a function of culture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then use your points as a framework to write the rest.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then summarize your points in your conclusion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arman 1002 lm an university sutdent in turkey.l need your suggestions about work and travel to improve my English
