solve 5/2x + 1/4x = 7/4 + x

So x is standing in the denominators on the left side? Then you should multiply by x and solve the emerging quadratic equation.
the x isn't actually in the denominators, i just couldnt type it to show that they are next to the fractions. i'm guessing in order to add the 5/2 x to 1/4 x, i have to change it to 10/4 x + 1/4 x?
yes, that is correct, and you can pull the right x to the left side and write the 1 in front of it as 4/4
so would i end up solving the equation as 7/4 x = 7/4
