a. Suppose two animals are in a race. Choose the two animals and calculate the speed of each animal in yards per second. my answers: Cheetah 70 mph 70 miles x 1 hour x 1760 yds = 34 yds/sec 1 hour 3600 sec 1 mile Lion 50 Mph 50 mph x 1 hour x 1760 yds = 24 yds/sec 1 hour 3600 1 mile b. Decide how much of a head start (in yards) the faster animal offers the slower animal. For each animal, write an equation relating distance from the starting line to time. Please help me write the equation, i don't know how. i think i need to use the form d=r*h but i don't know what numbers to plug in
Here is the answer to A: Pick two animals to be in a race and answer the following questions. a. Suppose two animals are in a race. Choose the two animals and calculate the speed of each animal in yards per second. Cheetah 70 mph 70 miles x 1 hour x 1760 yds = 34.2 yds/sec! AND B! Do you understand now? 1 hour 3600 sec 1 mile Fox 42 Mph 42 miles x 1 hour x 1760 yds = 20.5 yds/sec 1 hour 3600 1 mile b. Decide how much of a head start (in yards) the faster animal offers the slower animal. For each animal, write an equation relating distance from the starting line to time. (This is where I am having trouble.. these are my answers but they just doesn't seem right! I have to graph them and the graph seems weird.) Fox 348.5y=20.5x Cheetah y=34.2x
i saw that answer on an algebra website, but it still doesn't help me :/ i still don't know how to write the equation
Well im a part of that website, anyway think of it like this! What is the main message of your question?!!! Tell me the main message of what the problem is asking
the cheetah started at 0 yards at a speed of 34yd/sec and gave the lion a 10 second head start with the lion going at a speed of 24yd/sec. but how do i write two equations for this?
Good, The proper way of doing this is by... Taking each speed of the animal and timsing it by the other speeds.... Thats one way
what form do i put it in? i have to graph both equations
What kind of graph? And form it by the formilar I gave for each animal
in my book it says graph the two linear quations on the same coordinate plane
im so confused i was trying to figure this out all day
Well there you go, Fox 348.5y=20.5x Cheetah y=34.2x . Yea math is truly insane, anyway that is a two liner kind the one I gave... wait let me solve this on paper!
what would the lion equation be? i know the cheetah one
Which want you want?
the lion one
i have another question too
ok let me get it....
how long will it take the cheetah to overtake the lion? and how many yards from the starting line are the animals when the cheetah overtakes the lion?
ok well for the lion it is 348.5y=20.5x Is what i got i think it is right... to find out how the cheetah to overtake the lion subtract the lion and cheetah. I dont know what you mean for question number 2
where did the 348.5 come from?
well, thanks for helping me :) , i'll try to figure out the rest on my own. byee
No problem! =) hope you get a good grade! GOOD LUCK
