Which equation is NOT a quadratic equation? A. y = x2 + 6x - 5 B. y = 2x + 5 C. y = 2x2 + 5 D. y = 4x2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think a quadratic equation means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Dawn, I am asking you, in your opinion, what does a quadratic equation mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i was away putting my hair up i think it might mean an equation tht can be graphed.. i dont rly kno :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a quadratic equation is of the form \[ax ^{2}+bx+c\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It wouldn't hurt to know what a linear equation is too! y=mx+b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, I was about to say what craig just said.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yea isnt that standard form uh ik wut THAT is craig.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that is the standard form of expressing a quadratic equation. \[ax ^{2}+bx+c =0\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be D rite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't put the =0 in my earlier equation. It wouldnt be an equation it it doesnt equate to something :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how is it D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bc did u read my problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol like the answer part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, I read your problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thx tho for helping me but my dad just told me it is D is it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it is not D. A quadratic equation is a polynomial raised to the second degree.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh haha wow daddy! :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In mathematics, a quadratic equation is a polynomial equation of the second degree. The general form is ax^2+bx+c=0, where x represents a variable, and a, b, and c, constants, with a ≠ 0. (If a = 0, the equation becomes a linear equation.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and, btw, ALL equations can be graphed. graph, are, well, graphical representations of equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now, it is easy to see which choice is not a quadratic equation, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok hold on im reading what u said sorry so many ppl to tlk to!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then would it be B.?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic_equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY!! thx haha in math i just black out.... :P im more of a writer lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx anyways tho!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are welcome. In math you just have to break down your problems into smaller parts and try to understand what the smaller parts mean. If you don't understand the smaller part, break it into smaller parts still. Apply logic and you will get your answer. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well tanx u for that piece o wisdom lol (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

heh.
