my watch showed the correct time at 12 noon, but then the battery started to run down untill it eventually stopped completely. between 12 noon and when it stopped, it lost 20 minutes per hour on average.it now shows 6 pm but it stopped 4 hours ago. what is the correct time now? a.1am b.2am c.12am d.11am

Ok, I'll try to explain This watch is 3/2 times slower then it should be, so in order to find out how much time passed when they worked you should multiply 6 by 3/2 (which is 9). 12 noon + 9h + 4h = 1 am

This watch shows that 2/3 of an hour passes while it's really passes 1 hour. So you multiply 6 by 3/2 to compensate this. Dont know any better way to explain this :-(

20 mins loss means in total 20*6 mins loss i.e.2 hr...isnt it?

It's wrong to multiply by 6 because it is not really 6 hours passed (since the watch doesnt work properly)

Watch worked for x hours, then x=6+x*20mins, where x*20 is the total loss.
