The height of a pile of 600 sheets of paper is 6cm.Calculate (i) the thickness of one sheet and(ii)the height of a pile of 320 sheets. (i)= (ii)=

a) 1mm b)3.2 cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you want the height of 1 sheet, so if 600 sheets is 6 cm. Then 1 sheet is x cm. To get from 600 to 1 you divided by 600. So divide 6 cm by 600. You get 0.01 cm for one sheet of paper. To get 320 sheets, you need to multiple 1 sheet by 320, so likewise multiple 0.01 cm by 320 to get 3.2 cm.

it's 0.1 in millimetres not 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no its 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1cm= 100 mm right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it's 10 mm per cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes...thanx for correcting me...good on u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.1 mm is right you can also do a proportion for the 320 sheets (without determining the thickness of 1 sheet first): 600/6cm = 320/xcm => 600x = 1920 => x = 1920/600 :: 960/300 :: 480/150 :: 240/75 :: 80/25 :: 16/5 :: 3.2
