What the median of the listen numbers? 85, 75, 89, and 71
u sure/
the median for an even number of values is the mean of the 2 "middle" values... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median
remember that u have to put the numbers in numerical order first
82 is the median
sorry mary, but I disagree! the "middle" 2 values are 75 and 85. The mean of those two is 80 - So the median of those 4 values is 80.
no
you add the two middle nu,bers then divide it by 2 then you get 82
first paragraph of the wikipedia-article on 'median': In probability theory and statistics, a median is described as the numeric value separating the higher half of a sample, a population, or a probability distribution, from the lower half. The median of a finite list of numbers can be found by arranging all the observations from lowest value to highest value and picking the middle one. If there is an even number of observations, then there is no single middle value; the median is then usually defined to be the mean of the two middle values. @mary1000: as mitch already mentioned - you can't just pick the middle number, as it appears - you have to order them first. From "smallest" to "biggest"... So in this example the >middle< two numbers aren't 75 an 89 - they are 75 and 85..
