What does Log mean?
in my mind, i always say log(x) would be "10 to the what equals x?"
well i know that i mean like if its asking 5 log 3 + log 4 what does that mean?
a log is the 'undo-er' of powers, kind of like division is the 'undo-er' of multiplication. EX: 102 = 100, then log10(100) = 2 103 = 1000, then log10(1000) = 3, in this example, we are using log base 10, this is a default base and sometimes isn't even wirten. e is probably the most common base but log base e is more simply called the natural log, or ln. so in general: logx(m) = N means that xN = m so log5(125) = 3 because 53 = 125 Read more: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_log_in_Math#ixzz1K7uUVe87
I honestly still dont understand. can you help me figure out this one? log 7 + log 2
EX: 102 = 100, then log10(100) = 2 Like for right here. On this example, you see at the end there is 10(100)=2 right? Now you no that 10x10 =100 and thats to numbers so thats why it equals 2. Its like kind of a backwards equation. This isnt my best subject but im doing my best to help.
