Which of the following numbers is closest to the mean of this distribution ?
If you have a distribution like that, it's usually safe to say that the middle number will be the mean. The reason is because there are decreasing amounts of the numbers on either side, making them count `less' towards the mean, while there are more of the center number, so it counts `more'. Thus, it's a reasonable guess. Another way to do it is to actually do the math, adding up the number of squares for 1 (there is 1 square for 1), squares for 2 (2 squares of 2), etc. So you end up with 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 3 + ... Then you can divide that by the total number of squares.
