I'm sorry it looks like my last reply didn't get posted. You can only get zero from multiplication when one of the things you are multiplying is zero. So I find it helpful to rewrite these problems like this: b * (b+ 17) = 0 So this way, b = 0, or when (b+17) equals zero, which is b = -17. So the two answers are 0 and -17.
