solve 2x^2+12x=-18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first off add 18 to toehr side, then divide by 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

other*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then factor out wats in the middle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(x^2+6x+9)=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2(x+3)(x+3)=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

therefore x = -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hope that helps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These with non-trivial coefficients are kind of tricky. Rewriting it a comfortable form: 2x^2 + 12x + 18 We can factor a 2 out. 2(x^2 + 6x + 9) Which we can factor into 2(x + 3)(x + 3) So we have two real roots of -3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (-3,3) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Nope, just two of -3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you
