how do you solve -4x - (-x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The negative of a negative is a positive. I can show you why, but it might confuse matters. If you're prepared to just accept it for now, then you can write,\[-4x-(-x)=-4x+x=-3x\]

thank you
