Daisy gave the clerk $20 and received $4.92 in change. She purchased more than 2 but less than 8 identical items. How many items did she purchase?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much were the items? There isnt enough information to determine this answer...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its in a textbook so I'm sure there is enough info to figure it out. Let me re-read it to see if I copied it right...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah thats how it is in the book. :S

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well you could assume that each item would have to be the same price.... you could test and check... like you can take the 20-4.92 to get 15.08 then just divide that by a number between 2-8 that would have the same price...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Uh..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would be 4 items.. since you can take the 15.08 and divide it by 4 and you get that each item costs 3.77 which would give you back 4.92 in change from the 20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you divide the 15.08 by any other number between 2-8 you will get more than 2 decimal places. thus 4 is the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see... Thanks a lot. :)

np =)
