I'm working on a project that's built around understanding why education policy was created, how it works, and how it impacts society, but I want to use the arts to show what I'm learning. My question is, how have people used the arts to explain, influence, or impact education policy in the past?

OpenStudy (carlsmith):

I don't believe art has had much influence on education at all. Politics and the demands of trade and industry are the main factors in mainstream schooling. I think IT is the new game changer, at last. I don't see where art fits into the picture. The Underground History of American Education is a fascinating read that deals with your question very directly, but it isn't art based of course, it's more of a history by an openly critical, but highly respected teacher from New York. Gatto the chaps name is.
