Computer science to me is more of a mathematical endeavor involving discrete mathematics and algorithms. What I see here are entry level programming questions. Is there an actual 'computer science' openstudy area, or is this it?

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

This is it. At many/most colleges/universities (and in the common parlance), the term `computer science' encompasses both the algorithmic/mathematical/theoretical side of computer science and the ``practical'', development side. That is certainly the case at Georgia Tech. Thus, feel free to ask theoretical CS questions here. If we see a large enough mass of theoretical CS questions/askers and answers/answerers, we'll split this group along the theoretical/software development lines. The most important thing to us is for the actual group to have a decent amount of activity so that help is not a myth, but rather something you can realistically get :)

OpenStudy (carlsmith):

The mathematics group seems pretty lively and generally discusses stuff that's more advanced than what is dealt with here. You may find that some problems better suit that group despite the problem being more properly defined as computational. You should probably ask; does this problem look like one that appeals to the type of people who chill in group A or group B, irrespective of the group's name.

If you want to see more complex questions, go ahead and ask them. This isn't primarily designed for research and computer scientists have to start somewhere. I'm sure if you have a more interesting problem, there are people here that could help.
