I would suggest starting with the following x values to start graphing:

x = -1, 0, 1

The equation is y = x^2. Therefore, you plug in each x value to receive a y value. For example y = 0^2 = 0, which makes the point (0,0).

For the three values that I gave, these are the points:
(-1, 1)
(0, 0)
(1, 1)

Continue from there in the positive and negative direction and you will see the trend of the graph.
