OpenStudy (katieb):

What is the partial fraction decomposition? 8x^2+20x+77/x(x-9)(x-8)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

start like this: a/x+b/(x-9)+c/(x-8)

OpenStudy (katieb):

I also need a, b, and c. :( Please help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to get a b and c you need to consider the common denominator. a will be a(x(x-9)), b(x(x-8)) and so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you get a common denominator multiply the three terms in the numerator out and separate them into coefficients of x^2, x, and the constant, then look at the numerator of the original equation.

OpenStudy (katieb):

So which would be the answer? haha ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im posting a picture of it, give me a min.

OpenStudy (katieb):

thank you!

OpenStudy (katieb):

I think the answer is supposed to be a couple of fractions?...I'm confused.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, the answer is three fractions. The answer is the same equation written differently.

OpenStudy (katieb):

Is there any way you could please type out the final answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-749/(8 (x-8))+77/(72 x)+905/(9 (x-9))
