can someone please explain the pythagorean theory to me PLEASE?

It's really not that hard.. Just a^2 + b^2 = c^2

okay so if they gave me the numbers a=5, b=3, and c=7, and thn they ask me if the triangle was a right triangle, how would i figure that out?

You don't need trig

the c^2 bit is always the hypotenuse which is the longest side.

so in that example. 3^2 = 9
5^2=25
9 +25 = 34
7^2 = 49
so a^2 + b^2 isn't equal to c^2 so it isnt right angled

so if the problem was 1^2+9^2=c^2 then the answer would be radical 82?
