I need some help with 7{3m -(m+2)} > -6 (m-3) I am supposed to use set-builder notation to describe solution, {m I m > ? if some one could explain to me step by step i would appreciate

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First solve the inequality for m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute the -6 and the 7, then combine like terms, then see what you have.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Move all the m terms to one side, and non-m terms to the other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but dont i get rid of the parenthesis first, see i get confused on that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

certainly, but you have to distribute to remove the parens.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

see if i am right, i had 14m + 14 > -6m - 18 then i added 6m to each side, 8m + 14 > - 18 then I subtracted 14 from each side and then I have 8m> -32 is this right so far

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite. You're losing track of your negative signs. \[7[3m-(m+2)] \gt -6(m-3)\] \[7[3m-m - 2] \gt -6m -6(-3)\]

Finish from there.
