Find the rectangular coordinates for the point whose polar coordinates are given. (-2, 11π/2)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

that r is backwards :) so it can trick ya lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does that mean?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we gotta figure out where we end up..thats all :) normally, when the "r" is a positive number, we spin around by the angle and walk forward by "r" steps

OpenStudy (amistre64):

we gotta spin around by the angle indicated this time and walk "backwards" 2 steps....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what? i'm so confused :P

OpenStudy (amistre64):

polar coordinates give us two bits of information; how far to rotate(11pi/2) and how far to move(-2); where we end up is how we figure the (x,y) point for rectangular coordinates

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(walk this far our, rotate this much)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

teh x,y equivalent for this should be (0,2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u show me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (amistre64):

11pi/2 rotates us till we are pointing due south...straight down. then we back up 2 steps..... we simply end up at (0,2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh.. ok
