OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 26/20 but i don't know if i'm right!!!! please helppppp!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nevermind thats wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ughh idk!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not clear how the problem is being formulated. r u looking for the solution to: 3-2-(-5)=? or something much more involved?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what i was wondering what grade are you in lauren and what type of math course are you taking?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the ------ is a divided by sign. and the 2's above the numbers are exponents. i need it simplified.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm a freshman in college. it's a lower level math.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk if i can help you then i am a sophomore in high school but i am pretty sure it is 2, but im probably wrong :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ah.. so this can be written as: (3-2-(-5)^2)/(2^2-(-4)^2) where "^" represents exponentiation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep. that is right. now can u help me solve it?? lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes.. do u want step by step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well i dont really need it. but i would like an answer if possible.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YAY!!!! i was right!!!! xD haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that was right!! :) and i<3fun u were right...go girl ha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u know how to solve it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now can u help with this one too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha i am actually pretty good at math ^^ i just am never positive abou my answers!! ^^ and thx :) sure i can lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i understand the process. i just couldnt get the right answer. and i'm using this program where if i enter a wrong answer it makes me do like 5 more until i dont get them wrong anymore. so i was just making sure!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol... btw the print is so small i can't see the last problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if u click the link it will get bigger.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that says mathproblem2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 4 * (-3) + (1 - 2^2) ^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats the problem lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im working on it right now i cant remember the order of operations i learned a while bak!! :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Parenthesis...exponents...multiplication...division...addition...subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exponentiation comes first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh i see couldnt quite figure that one out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol thank you!!! :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well.. parenthesis do come before exponents

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will one of u help me with this account? like do the problems for me? haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ik i did those however i made a few little mistakes in my calculating ^^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

? do the problems for u?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arent you in college?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NAMELOC? i'm dead serious! haha i'll give u my log in if u help me out! and yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i will help u learn to do it, but not do it for u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh ok. dang it. it was worth a shot. lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea im only in high school and i dont even think school should be taken so lightly ..... i will help to do the same if nameloc cant help u lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good... because i don't know how long i can stay on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol alright :P but the same goes for me bc i still have to study urggggggg

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u find puzzling Lauren?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

negative signs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what answer did u get for that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i havent done that one yet. i dont really know where to start.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cross multiply??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first put them over the same denominator so u can combine them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the top and bottom of the first fraction by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply the top and bottom of the second fraction by 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k did that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the 2 denominators do not have the same sign. one is positive. one is neg. is that ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-25/35 - 42/-35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

notice that a negative in the denominator still make the right fraction a negative number... so u have a negative times a negative which makes a positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if it was addition would it stay negative though?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok now what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-25 - 42 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-67/35 is that the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since they now have the same denominator u can combine them... i get 17/35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-25/35 - 42/35

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but -25 - 42 is -67...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the second fraction becomes positive because of the double negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k i got it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Fun.. did u get the same answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! u were right! :) can u help me with this one? i have 2 more of these.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do u think the answer is, based on how we did the last one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-73/40 well, i hav to go.. cya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you! later!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that wasnt righttttttt
