Find the volume of a rectangular prism whose dimensions are twice those of another rectangular prism that has a volume of 120 cm3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let the other rectangular prism have dimensions x,y,z V = xyz = 120 ( from the "other" rectangle )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now the volume of the rectangle we want has dimensions twice as big, ie instead of x,y,z it will be 2x,2y,2z

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so volume of new rectangle = (2x)(2y)(2z) = 8 (xyz)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but from before we know that xyz = 120 , so subing in, volume of new rectangle = 8 ( 120) = 960cm^3
