two astronauts are pulling on each other with a rope. one pulls 30 N to the right, the other pulls 20 N to the left. What is the tension in the rope when the force is applied? We can assume the guy pulling 30 N is 50kg and the guy pulling 20 N is 40 kg, but thats not relevant. So my question is, what is the tension in the rope. Additional Details / background : Of course when the force is applied for long, the tension becomes slack because they are moving towards each other. But the instant before it becomes slack, i know there is newtons third law pairs and there is tension. For example in
