6÷2(1+2)=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is obvious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think its one, since if you use BEDMAS then you do the 1+2 first so you have 6/2(3) then you just simplify that so you have 6/6 so that equals 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6/ (2*1) + (2*2) 6/(2+4) 6/6 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6/2=3 3*3=9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

parenthesis come first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then u have 6/2 times 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distribute the 2 then add the parenthesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

put this 6/2(1+2) in your calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it 1 or 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u multiply 2x3 before you divide?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so therefore it is 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its 1 but this says otherwise

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1+2 is three then order of operations from left to right making 6/2=3, 3*3 is 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my apologies i thought 6 was on top of all of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 9?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well one math teacher told me it was 1...and others have said 9...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in that case it would be 9. If 6 would have been over the entire equation it would be one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even if you distribute the 2 to the 1 and the 2 and then add them, its still 1...quote from teacher...also says multiplication comes first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6/2(2+1) following the PEMDAS rule, the answer comes out to be 9. parenthesis, exponents, multiplication OR division, ANY ORDER!! (remember that), addition OR subtraction!! sooo...lots of people forget that part.(: 6/2(3) 3(3) =9
