1. If Lynn can type a page in p minutes, what piece of the page can she do in 5 minutes? A. 5/p B. p - 5 C. p + 5 D. p/5 E. 1- p + 5

D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how was it you worked it out or what steps did you use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was lying, it's A. You can try using real numbers to see which one logically makes sense. For instance, if p was 10 (so it took her 10 minutes to write a page), you can assume that she can write half a page in 5 minutes. Only one of those answers should give you 1/2. If more than one answer does, try with new numbers. Does that help?

yes thank you :)

Sure thing.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

p = whole = 1 5 minutes = part = fraction of a whole p/5 = part of the whole in 5 minutes...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

think pie :) 1 pie is the whole things; part of the pie is what you get... 1/5 is a part of the whole thing....
