Find the sum of the first ten terms of the sequence -4, 1, 6, ........41 in the tenth term. The answer is 185. I need help finding the rate, and the set up of the equation, I can't seem to figure it out.
This is an Arithmatic progression where each term is 5 more than the previous term
In such a case, the value of the nth terms is given by the formula \[s _{n} = n/2 (a + l)\] where sn stands for sum a = first term which is -4 in this case l = last term which is 41 in this case n = no of term u want to find which is 10 in yr case
so putting in the values u get \[s _{10} = 10/2 (-4 + 41) = 5 x 37 = 185\]
