correction to your simplified version: 2(x+1)/(x-1)
if x goes to infinity, then you would infinity/infinity, which you can attempt to fix by using L'hopital's, which means taking the derivative of the top and the bottom, leaving you 2, before you can even apply the limit to infinity again.
