what value can the vairalbe not have for b-3/b+5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

think of anything that would cause this to not exist. in otherwords... what does b have to be so that the denominator equals 0.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't get it just give me the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k, i dont want to do that cause then you dont learn anything. but just remember that you can never divide by 0. so think of a number that you can plug in for 'b' that would give you a 0 on the bottom.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

close. but that would give you 5+5 which is 10.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it may be easier to visualize if you just try to solve this equation: b+5 = 0. then you just solve for b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so its -5!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!! that's right! nice work!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks man
