Andrew factored the expression -6x^3+9x^2-3x as, -3x(2x^2-3x-1). But when Melissa applied the distributive law and multiplied out -3x(2x^2-3x-1), she got -6x^3+9x^2+3x; thus, Andrew's solution does not appear to heck. Why is that? Please help Andrew to understand this better. Explain and correctly factor the original axpression, if possible. If the expression is prime, so state this.

OpenStudy (stacey):

When you factor out a negative the signs change, so instead of -1 in the parenthesis, it should be +1.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

he goofed on the -1 part.. -3x(1) = -3x....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you. so the correct expression should be -3x(2x^2-3x+1).

OpenStudy (stacey):

Yes
