OpenStudy (anonymous):
can u see it ok?
OpenStudy (yuki):
yep

OpenStudy (yuki):
remember that when you change a division into a multiplication you have to flip the number ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yep. so u would do that to the the second equation?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
reciprocal or something?
OpenStudy (yuki):
yeah, on the second term
so it would look like
(3x+12)/(4x-18 * (x-3)/(x+4)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
alright.

OpenStudy (yuki):
when you factor out the common factors from the left rational expression, what do you get?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Arggghhh so hard to solve in that typed format :P hold on
OpenStudy (yuki):
what does 3x+12 factor into?
OpenStudy (yuki):
are you asking me what it is ?
OpenStudy (yuki):
nvm the "are you ~" part

No of course not i am trying to talk to my mother and you and other people all at the same time therefore its hard to concentrate :P so hold on lol sowee about not answering so quickly :P
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Hmmmm i think the answer is A maybe C do u agree? or did it not attach that part :P
OpenStudy (yuki):
3x+12 factors into 3(x+4), so it cancels with the denominator of the right side of the rational expression
OpenStudy (anonymous):
right.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
these are my choices :)

4x-18 does factor into 2(2x-9), but you have no term on the numerator that cancels with this , so it is a waste
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it is C then...
OpenStudy (yuki):
the uhhuh looks right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
lol so u like my labels... ^^
OpenStudy (yuki):
oops

lol and okie dokie :P totally off on that one
OpenStudy (yuki):
it's the yep, sorry I didn't look at it carefully
OpenStudy (anonymous):
woo hoo! thats the one i thought it might be!!! :)
OpenStudy (yuki):
most rational expressions work exactly the same way,
so as long as you can factor polynomials, all you have to
do is to see which one divides out and cancel.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hmmm so the answer to this one i will attach them would be A?

and alright i see! :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
OpenStudy (yuki):
hoot would be the answer
OpenStudy (yuki):
because \[x^2-16 = (x+4)(x-4)\]
OpenStudy (yuki):
only (x-4) divides out

Ahhhh alright i can see why i was wong. ^^ oh ok like 1 or two more.. :) So then on this one:
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it would be
OpenStudy (anonymous):
It would be YA right? :P im a little lost on this concept :p
OpenStudy (yuki):
this one you cannot cancel anything, so you do long division
OpenStudy (yuki):
are you comfortable with it?

I cannot type it so I will upload a file
OpenStudy (anonymous):
alright :) thanks a bunch!!
OpenStudy (yuki):
this is the first step
OpenStudy (yuki):
this is the next step

OpenStudy (anonymous):
Meaning it would be ya correct?
