how do you do volume?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know. That is a hard thing to do. What is "doing volume" mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area times height.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

area times height do you have it on your book or note?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ie, a cube is s^3, a cone is 1/3pir^2 h Etc

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, volume is generally cross sectional area x height.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lenghtxwidthxheight

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what in case of cylinder. cylinder doesn't have length and width???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The volume of a cylinder is pi r^2 h. It's still the base times the height.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, it ain't base times the height. the cross section of cylinder is a circle. so the area of circle = \[\pi r ^{2}\] and then multiplied with height = \[\pi r^{2}h\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Which is actually exactly what I just said. Pi r^2 h.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The base is the same as the cross section.
