im having major issues factoring this trinomial i know it is not prime so it has to have a solution i just cant figure the solution out the teacher said there is only one prime trinomial and that was number 4 he told me that one but the trinomial i need help on is 10d^2+17d-20 need it to be factored
and if possible show work so i know what either i was doing wrong or just wasnt doing at all
Have you tried the quadratic formula?
we are not allowed to use quadratic formula we havent even learned that yet im a freshmen they dont teach that til junior year
what are the factors of 20?
doesn't quadratic give complex roots anyway? I'm not sure there are integer solutions to this equation (but please prove me wrong...)
complete the square; its the long hand version of the quad formula
the quad doesnt 'give' complex roots, just shows when you got em :)
Ug I dropped a (-) sign in my quad work ;)
Yeah, it has two real distinct roots.
so did the teacher make a mistake and theres really two prime trinomials
no - I'm sorry, ignore me.
It does not have integer solutions, but it has real solutions.
no, What methods have you learned?
lol..... cant ignore you ;)
just foil and thats all and i cant find the solution at all ive been working on this one problem for over an hour now
We need a delete option :P
white out on the screen lol
10d^2+17d-20 (d+ /10)(d- /10) 10(20) = 200 1,200; 2;100; 4;25; 5;40; 10; 20 ....doesnt seem to factor into integrers
so are all those numbers the answer when its factored??
4;50; 8;25 thats the one 25 and 8
It can't be factored into integers.
so then what is it factored because we havent learned how to do these when they cant be factored into integers
(d+ /10)(d- /10) (d+ 25/10)(d- 8 /10) (d+ 5/2)(d- 4/5) (2d+5)(5d- 4)
ok thank you
