june has been saving nickels and dimes for three weeks in a jar. She looked into the jar and found that it contained 29 coins worth $2.05. how many nickels and dimes were in the jar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can set up a system of equations: .1d + .05n= 2.05 d+n = 29 where d is the number of dimes and n is the number of nickels

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but yes how do u solve for d and n???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, you can take the easier one and solve for one variable and plug it into the other

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so d=29-n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you plug in that d into the other equation so that you have only one variable to get the number of nickels

OpenStudy (anonymous):

understand?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you want to try out the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

workin it now do u have the answers so i can check with u when i think i have it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, I have the answers. Tell me when you get your answers. Or if you're not actually working on it, I could just tell you them now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n=17 and d=12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct! Good job!

thanks!
