OpenStudy (momo):

Describe the locus of all points in a plane that are 9 cm from point M. circle M with a radius of 18 cm, circle M with a radius of 9 cm, square with 9 cm sides, square with 18 cm sides

OpenStudy (yuki):

you just follow the definition of a circle circle := the set of all points that are equidistant from a point

OpenStudy (yuki):

the distance for that point to any point in the set is called the "radius"

OpenStudy (yuki):

and the point is called the center

OpenStudy (yuki):

long story short, the locus of all points 9cm from a point is a circle with radius 9cm

OpenStudy (yuki):

does that help ?

OpenStudy (momo):

a little bit :), i'm still not sure how i solve it though

OpenStudy (yuki):

you don't solve it , it's a definition. if you want to prove that it is not a square though, it is possible. are you interested ?

OpenStudy (momo):

sorry, the stuff about circles and squares after the first sentence, are possible answers

OpenStudy (yuki):

yes, I assumed that.

OpenStudy (momo):

oh okay, i was just making sure that was clear cuz the sentence looked strange to me haha! okay i understand now :) thank you!

OpenStudy (yuki):

no problem :)

OpenStudy (momo):

Describe the locus of all points that are 3 cm from a point m. so would this be the same concept?

OpenStudy (yuki):

yep, circle with radius 3

OpenStudy (momo):

but that isn't one of my options...

OpenStudy (momo):

oh wait! yeah it is lol sorry

OpenStudy (momo):

i do have some confustion about some of my options though

OpenStudy (momo):

a line, 3 cm from line m, a pair of parallel lines, each parallel to and 3 cm from line m, a sphere with a radius of 3 cm, or a circle with a diameter of 6 cm

OpenStudy (yuki):

momo, it would be helpful to separate the answers from the questions by pressing enter like this

OpenStudy (yuki):

so is the question what is the locus of all the points 3cm away from line m ?

OpenStudy (momo):

Describe the locus of all points that are 3 cm from a point m.

OpenStudy (momo):

sorry for the confusion

OpenStudy (yuki):

if it is in a plane, then it is a circle with radius 3 if it is in a space, then it is a sphere with radius 3

OpenStudy (yuki):

it you are looking for the locus of all points 3cm away from a line, then you have two lines that are parallel to line m one 3cm above it and the other 3cm below it

OpenStudy (yuki):

if you draw a picture it makes sense does that help ?

OpenStudy (momo):

yes thank you!!
