If x4 + px3 + rx + s2 is a perfect square then, ps = ____

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it X^4 + px^3 + rx + 2s??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and is that you in the picture?

OpenStudy (khushi):

yess but no 2s its s^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is 'r'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer is R, sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if u consider a quad eqn x^2 + ax + b and the then square it, you get x^4 + (2a)x^3 + (a^2 + 2b)x^2 + 2abx + b^2 if u compare the coefficients with ur own equation, p=2a s=b so ps = 2ab, which is equal to r in ur eqn (coeff of x) hence ps=r

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@him1618: Great you got it 'right' this time :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no there were external pressures to deal with the first time i squared it

OpenStudy (khushi):

thank u @ him1618 n aash7sh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey no probs ma'am

r u in india?
