how do you solve squareroot of 8/16

OpenStudy (amistre64):

solve it for what? at the moment its simply an expression; expressions are statements... no solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you simplify it then

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well; you take out as many perfect squares as you can and convert them to their integer counterparts then

OpenStudy (amistre64):

perfect squares are 1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81,etc

OpenStudy (amistre64):

does 8 have a perfect square that we can factor out of it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (amistre64):

are you sure? I would assume that 4 * 2 = 8 ... and that 4 is a perfect square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok sorry i thought you meant it had to be like 4 *4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then yes it does

OpenStudy (amistre64):

sqrt(4) * sqrt(2) = 2sqrt(2) would you agree?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the bottom is a perfect square: sqrt(16) = 4 right? so we simplify it as.... 2sqrt(2) sqrt(2) ------ which can be simplified further to ------; do you agree? 4 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i get it now

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) i knew you would ;)
