When it says find the discriminant of each quadratic function equation then state the number and type of solution, what do they mean?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the discriminant...discriminates between values

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your square the middle# and subtract (4)(first#)(last#) and get a value

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if that value is greater than 0; there are 2 roots you can find if that value equals 0; then there is only 1 root to find if that value is less than 0 (a negatvie value); then there are no 'real' roots

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The discriminant is the thing that's inside the square root, when you're using the quadratic formlua :) (i.e. amistre64's 2nd answer)
