why is it a negative k
Well, the negative indicates that the rate of change is going down: The closer you get to 68 degrees, the more slowly you change temperature. k is just a constant :D
is it safe to say that when we are dealing with temperature it will bee a negative k
No. It HAS TO BE A NEGATIVE K. This is RATE, not the actual temperature.
