how do i add fractions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Like this: (a/b) + (c/d) = (ad/bd) + (cb/bd) = ((ad+cb)/bd)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You first get your two fractions and make sure they have the same denominator. Then, you add the top numbers normally while keeping the denominator in tact.

how do you make the denominator the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what would i do for this: 3/4 + 11/12 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First notice that 12/4=3 and that 3/3=1. You can multiply 3/4 by 3/3=1 to get 9/12. Then you just add the numerators together to get 20/12.

(36+44)/48=80/48=10/6=5/3=1.67
