Can somebody explain what a range of a function is ? Thanks (:
If f : X\[\rightarrow\] Y is a function then the immage set f(X) is the range of function f and it is a subset of Y.
If f : X→Y is a function then the immage set f(X) is the range of function f and it is a subset of Y.
If you don't want a technical, over-complicated definition, the range of a function is essentially the set of all values that the function can take: basically, the maximum and minimum height above and below the x-axis (or, alternatively, the greatest and least value on the y-axis). For a line with a slope not equal to (it's not horizontal), the range is from negative infinity to positive infinity...for a parabola, it's a finite value to the maximum or minimum point, and infinite in the opposite direction.
