simplify: 4(2m^3 - y^1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiply 4 against each of the terms in the parenthesis... \[8m^3 - 4y\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But I'd actually consider the original version more simplified, but that's just me I guess.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure sure, because i thought you should cube the 3 first then multipy by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the cube just the m? or is it the quantity of (2m)^3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

quantity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have this: \[8(2m)^3 \] then yes, you'll cube 2m first (8m^3) then multiply by 8.
