Op amp stands for operational amplifier.
It is a 3-terminal electronic component, with 3 input pins and a output pin.
The output is highly (~10^6) amplified value of the voltage difference.

Yeah,
In an inverting amplifier input voltage is applied to the -ve input terminal of the opamp and also negative feedback is given ( i.e, The output is connected to the -ve input terminal through a resistor). The +ve terminal is grounded.
While in a non-inverting amplifier, input voltage is applied to +ve terminal and negative feedback is given. The -ve terminal is connected to ground through a resistor.
