the hypotenuse of a right triangle is 17ft long. one leg is 3.4ft more than the other leg. find the lengths of the legs?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let x be the length of a leg. \[17^{2}= x ^{2}+(x+3.4)^{2}\] then u solve the equation.

as anfar said, use the Pythagorean theorem to solve this problem. a^2 + b^2 = c^2. (c^2 being the hypotenuse, always.)
