is this (4)^1/3 or 2^1/3 * 2^1/3 = 4^2/3

Always remember PEMDAS. Parentheses before exponents. So (4)^1/3
but then why is this true: (xy)n = x^ny^n
\[(xy)^{n} = x ^{n} y ^{n}\]

i thought the same thing- PEMDAS, but yet that changes the answer...i think.
This is because the exponent is a variable which distributes into the parentheses.
